I have heard many opinions concerning which tournament format is best. Now, lets hear you.

I like the 2 day 2 pool double elimination tournaments.I think it gives the girls more breaks if equipped with enough fields. Now don't get me wrong 1 days are nice but too rushed IMO.

I like a 2 pool double elmin. But if it is a team fund raiser it can cut into the money. If fields are limited you have to take less teams and play more games, resulting in more umpire fees.

I really like the "friendly" format where everyone plays everyone else and the two teams with the best record in the end of it all play a championship game. It gets the most games for the teams involved and allows for completely knowing your schedule before ever showing up.
I think that's what Team USA had at the KFC World Cup last month. Probably not the best thing for fund raisers, but at least you don't have any teams playing 3 games and going home!

I don't like the friendly format myself. We lost one game by one point in one of those tournaments and didn't make it to the championship. It was a bummer.

I like 1 pool double elmin one day. One game to get ready then the tourny starts. Nothing worse than playing an 8 am game and lose then go home.

To me, I think it completely depends on what part of the season you are in. Early in the season, I like the Friendlies. It gives you the most amount of innings for your dollar. Early in the season is when you work on different things. However, with friendlies, every game counts, as someone mentioned earlier. Losing one game can determine whether or not you are in the last game. If attending a friendly, and your intentions are to win, you have to have more than one pitcher. The number of games played seems to much for one pitcher.
As the season moves to the later months, 2 pool and double. This gives all teams the opportunity to lay an egg...yet, have the opportunity to rebound from it.
**If your talking about raising money and hosting?? Single elim is the way to go. Friendlies are not big money makers at all...***
Just my thoughts.

I agree with Octane. Friendly format is good for getting kids innings at different positions and gaining experience. As long as your whole team (parents especially) understand that its all practice until state /Nats, not riding your #1 P & C 3 games in a row to win the " XXX Ponytail Friendly". For a regular tournament, I really like 3 pool single elim, with pool play meaningless (seeding being random or based on points). That way, you can move kids around in pool play and still satisfy parents by trying to win in single elim w/ your #1 & #2.

During the fall I think the more games the better. This gives a coach the chance to mix things up a little & be more creative. In my opinion, you can practice all you want but game situations are much more productive because you get a good gauge on what your team can & can't do. Just my thoughts...
