We are looking for a ball player. All positions are considered. All positions are earned.

You cannot go wrong being a member of the Octane. They have great coaches, very nice parents, and a great group of girls. And they are considered one of the top 3 teams in Alabama.

lol.... Riptide, you either want a pitcher or a infielder. Pitchers need to pitch. They "earn" their time at tryouts.......

My post was simply letting everyone know my opinion of the Octane team. Based on his response, it looks like they are looking for a good player, not a specific position to fill.

well, ttown we agree to disagree. this is not college ball or high school ball. Its travel ball parents pay to play. If a coach is looking for 1,2 or 3rd pitcher he needs to let prospective pitchers know that and to be evaluated where they fit in at tryouts. Coaches (if they care about the kids not themselves) they should be honest with the parents where they would fit in on the team so they can determine if they want on the team or not. This is why many of the coaches in 14u and above struggle for good pitchers.. Because the younger teams hoard the pitchers and do not provide them any development time because its all about the win. If they will not get the pitchin time they should go somewhere else - and that is usually the case and then there is bad blood and negative about the organization in a whole. Pitchin time at practice??/ Pitchin time should not even be conducted at practice unless there is pitcher/catcher practice. Practice for a pitcher is done outside of "team" practice. Chris should be honest if they girl will get any pitchin time or NOT.. No need for response, just up for discussion... Best to you all... Yes, CH has a good team.,, Wish him the best.

i agree 14u is hurting for good pitchers. if a pitcher does not see the mound during some games then she will give it up unless her dad gets a team so she can have some time. plus loading a team up with pitchers to take you through big tournaments only takes the place[the pitchers] of a player that has trained on 1st/3rd. got to have a place for the "pitcher" to play while she is waiting for her turn. most do not ride the bench until their time. sometime not too fair for non pitching players.

Yes....lets agree to disagree. My 2 cents....At 10u level, most pitchers are not conditioned to pitch 3 or more games in a given tournament, whereas most experienced 14u pitchers are. Therefore, you should have at least 3 capable pitchers on your team. When they are not pitching, they typically play somewhere in the field. Would it be fair to you if I told you that your daughter would be our #2 pitcher. Then come gametime, she struggles. What do I do....keep her as my #2 pitcher because I told you that before tryouts, or do I give another girl a chance? My point is that you shouldn't promise anyone anything, other than the opportunity to earn a spot in the rotation. The TEAM should come first. Any credible coach should care more about developing girls into a fundamentally sound team, than promising anything to anyone.
If a coach promises anyone anything before the player has an opportunity to earn it, then I would run away as fast as I could. Girls should be taught that if you want something bad enough, you should work hard for it, not have it handed to you.

Im sorry I was talking about 3 mound ready pitchers, not "capable" pitchers... Mound ready pitchers earned their way practicing year round..

What about box ready hitters, dirt ready infielders, grass ready outfielders, and bench ready subs.

Yes, what about them? Should we replace them with the 4 1st baseman, 3 ss, 4, outfielders on the team and tell them you catch bad at 1st base today you will be replaced with #2 1st baseman??? NOT... Is that what you were saying?? adad you added no value to the discussion.

I thought this was a joke, I had no idea you were serious. What I add to the discussion is an attempt at showing how ridiculous your "discussion" is. Frankly you are very hard to follow(thats a nice way of saying you make no sense). Lets live in the real world for a minute. Pitchers that shut down hitters or can protect a lead get to pitch. It does not matter how much a pitcher practices what matters is their effectiveness. When you only carry 10-11 girls on your roster .......forget it....I just realized your clueless.

we sure got way off track on this feed.....good luck to the 99 pitcher. hope she finds a team that fits for years to come. welcome to the world of fastpitch travel. parents: stay positive and watch the game for what it is and not what you think it should be. my assignment from my daughter in 14u this year is to sit and be quiet. she says i am too loud[the loudest in fact]. work hard 99 pitcher you will love travel.

adad, why did you bother to get into this conversation??? Its clear you just didn't get it.... You should of left it at "read only" and mind your business because the messages were to the pitchers parent NOT YOU!... The debate was between Ttown and I NOT YOU.. Here we go AL.COM all over again... Calling names???
Jojo 3471.. I agree... 99 pitcher work hard and you will find the right fit and hopefully a place to grow and pitch and pitch and pitch......
