We played in Georgia this weekend, again. I have to brag on a coach and vent on another coach. The coach that gets bragged on is the Atlanta Vipers coach. I don't think he has the most talented squad we have played but he coached them to a tie against us. They played sound defense and bunted their way to success on offense and through it all their coach coached. He stayed positive yet direct, he called more timeouts than any coach I have seen but they where effective at slowing us down. Yes we had a runner on third with one out when time expired and the game format was drop dead. Bottom line we did not play well but they played great and I was glad they did not have to lose.
On another note: I watched a coach get so bent out of shape from a call at first base that he danced across the field (like a swarm of bees were after him)threw his hat down and stopped in front of the stands for all the world to see him in his glory. Only problem was it was only 2 outs. He was so irate that he couldn't hear the crowd and his other coaches telling him its only two outs. Later in the game one of their hitters hit a solid line drive of off our pitcher sending her to the ground in a pile. While our pitcher was rolling around in pain he was steadily yelling instructions to his players. His players were worried about our pitcher but not him. Our parents expressed their disgust with him as he danced by the backstop again. He mouthed off to our parents and then came beelining to our dugout to whine about them giving him a hard time. We basically just looked at him. Last but not least the first base coach had picked up on our signs and looked like a bobble headed doll shaking his head yes to the third base coach when a change-up was called so they could call a steal. I don't really have a problem with picking up on signs but what I do have a problem with and so did the field umpire was when our shortstop realized what they were doing and yelled she"s going (before the pitch), the dancing crazed third base coach yelled sarcastically back at our ss YES SHE IS GOING. Never, Never, Never yell in any shape form or fashion at the players on the other team.
Bottom line is there are some really good coaches over there and there is at least one idiot.
